That is not a lie. This is the best apple cake in the world. I’m not a fan of apple usually, but this is amazing. It’s worth the 45 minute wait for it to be done.
German Apple Cake
2 cups flour (I used AP)
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup oil (I used a blend of canola and light olive oil)
3/4 cup applesauce
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups chopped apple (I used a combination of Macintosh, Cortland and Gala)
In a large bowl mix the sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda. In a smaller bowl mix the oil, applesauce, vanilla and the eggs. Mix the wet and dry ingredients. Chop the apples and add them to the batter. Put all ingredients into a 13 x 9 in. pan that has been lightly greased. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
Try not to drool on the floor and you press your face up against the oven window. It isn’t tasteful.
Serve yourself a beautiful slice on a beautiful plate. It just makes it taste all the better.
The top becomes slightly crispy and the apples stay tart and delicious.
I want to marry this cake. But, I’m taken. Damn.
